Colonel
H. U. Qureshi after graduating form F. C. College Lahore in 1939
joined British Indian Army in 1940. As a first Indian 2/Lieut
he joined 2/16th- Punjab Regiment. During the World War II he
served mostly in Bengal and Burma.
He
took the Command of 2/1 16th Punjab Regiment on PANDU (URI Sector)
in Azad Kashmir in 1948, after the battle of PANDU and then was
ordered to capture the KISHEN GANGA VALLEY from TITWAL to KEL.
He Capture 60 miles of the Kishen Ganga Valley from Titwal to
KEL, within a month despite the inclement of severe weather and
renamed it NEELAM VALLEY.
Colonel
Qureshi was staff officer to General Ayub Khan 1951-1952 and General
Iskander Mirza 1955-58. He attended Staff College Comerly England
in 1953 and retired in 1958. He also served, as a private secretary
to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Prime Minister and General Akhtar Abdul
Rehman, who was the Director ISI Directorate, during the war in
Afghanistan against the Soviet union as his eyes and ears. Colonel
Qureshi has planned to open a small hospital in the Valley, for
both boys and girls, and grant them scholarships. Colonel Qureshi
is, however, settled in the United States of America, along with
his family.
