Dr.
I.H. Qureshi
Dr. I.H. Qureshi was educated at the universities of Delhi and
Cambridge. He has taught history for more than three decades at
Delhi Punjab and Columbia Universities.
He
has been a member of the Indian as well as Pakistan Historical
Records Commissions, of the Councils of the Indian and the Pakistan
Institutes of International Affairs, of the Executive Committees
of the Indian History Conference and Pakistan History Society.
He is Vice-President of the Pakistan History Society and President
of Pakistan Political Science Association. He has been twice general
president of the Pakistan History conference as well as Pakistan
Political Science Conference. He has been director of the Central
Institute of Islamic Research and Vice-Chancellor of the University
of Karachi.
Dr.
Qureshi participated in the Khilafat Movement. He was a member
of the Pakistan National Movement at Cambridge in association
with Choudhary Rahmat Ali. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly
of India and then to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. He
has had the advantage of personal contacts with the top leaders
of the Khilafat and the Muslim League Movements. He was a member
of the Government of Pakistan from 1949-1954 as deputy minister,
then minister of state and finally as minister with cabinet rank.
In recognition of his services he was decorated with the high
order of Sitara-I-Pakistan (Star of Pakistan).
Dr.
Qureshi is the author of several books which have been welcomed
in scientific and the literary circles.
