Ali Muhammad Rashdi
Pir Ali Muhammad Rashdi was born in 1905 in his ancestral village
Bahman, in Larkana, Sindh. Educated initially by local clerics
and schoolteachers, he studied largely on his own initiative.
Rashdi followed parallel careers in journalism and politics. In
the former he was active from the age of fifteen as writer, editor
or proprietor of several newspapers. In the latter too he remained
involved most of his life, and the last political post he held
was that of advisor in the government of Z.A. Bhutto. In addition
he had a diplomatic career, and served as Pakistan’s ambassador
to the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China. He
is the author of books, in Sindhi, Urdu and English.
