Yasin
Istanbuli is a veteran diplomat who has been associated with Jordan’s
Foreign Service since 1962. He was Head of the Mission in Algeria,
Iran as well as in several Central European republics. His last
appointment was as ambassador to Pakistan. A Scholar as well as
a diplomat, Dr Istanbuli read for his doctorate from Bucharest.
His academic interest in international relations and history coupled
with his own experience as a diplomat has given him a unique insight
into the conduct of foreign relations. The author believes that
diplomacy as it was conducted during the early days of Islam,
with its emphasis on universality, peaceful relations, and equality
of nations and peoples, has left a lasting impact on international
relations, as practiced today.
