Mr. Wajiuddin Siddiqui Ph.D. (Cantab.)


Mr. Wajiuddin Siddiqui, the author of ‘Renaissance Reformation of Islamic Society’ is the son of Muhammad Ismail Siddiqui who was a Professor of Geography at Government College Bareilly UP India after having graduated from Ali Garh University. The Author was born in Varanas in 1926.

Mr. Wajiuddin Siddiqui’s paternal grandfather, who was my maternal grandfather, Sufi Muhammad Ishaq, was a Sufi Saint of the Chishti Silsila. After retirement from the Post Telegraph Department at Lucknow, Sufi Muhammad Ishaq lived the rest of his life, and is buried, at the Chisti Silsila shrine of Bholipura near Allahabad, U.P., at the confluence of the Rivers Ganges and Jumna. An annual Urs is held for Sufi Muhammad Ishaq.

Mr. Wajiuddin Siddiqui was one of the handful of Muslim Mining Engineers who studied Mining at Indian School of Mines Dhanbad, India. The author and other Muslim Students, M. Q. Zaman, later the Managing Director of Karachi Gas Co.. Mr. Ali Asghar Malik and Nazir Hussain Qureshi; the last three were from the undivided Punjab; were forced to leave from the Indian School of the Mines, upon the outbreak of communal riots in 1947.
